The 80’s are a well-represented time period and for many of us epitomizes a defined space in our childhood memories. Even if you didn’t get to experience the great joy of electric orange sweaters and massive amounts of Aqua Net hairspray, there is something to love about nostalgia.
The new trailer premiering today exclusively on IGN is showcasing how the game is capturing the atmosphere of the original MGM’s 1988 movie. You’ll see iconic locations like the Big Top spaceship, the amusement park, and more, compared side-by-side with their cinematic inspirations. The team wanted to bring you back to this era and infuse love into every pixel. That’s why fidelity and authenticity are in every moment of your Crescent Cove experience.
From Officer Mooney’s police station to Debbie Stone’s colonial abode, you can see the effort made to bring you back to this space. It’s always a perpetual night lit by motivational contrasting moonlight. Panavision cameras and the Kodak 35mm Eastman films inspired the right color palette from this decade with careful thought to interior and exterior imagery. Visual benchmarks help you navigate the map as you gobble up some Big Top Burgers and evade well, you know… the invasion. It’s all waiting for you to step right in.
A place you’ll definitely notice will be the circus tent when you find it, ironically itself also a Big Top, sans deliciousness. Is it a tent though? It sure looks like a tent in the movie and in the game too. But no, this is Klown home central. The place where it all happens. The nexus of the invasion.
Of course, there would be no killing without those space-faring Klowns. Duh. Body anatomy was the first development as careful thought was given to how they move. Without a human in a Klown suit like the movie, things get hella complicated.
As you can see, we’re spot on to the authenticity of the original.
If you’re playing a Human, hopefully you'll spend some time inside the spaceship going after its core. Infiltrating this special place gives your team a chance to win the match and take out those Klowns. It was especially important to maintain that feel and creepy fog effect you know from the movie.
Home decor with just the right amount of hook for your cocoon placement was also paramount.
This is just a taste of the lengths we went to to keep our conceptual compass facing towards the IP we’re all so passionate about. Enjoy this B-movie aesthetic that puts you into an absurdly terror-filled match, or one that’s a playful murderous rampage hunting your favorite snack. Once you’re in the Crescent Cove environment you’ll be immersed into this world where even the gameplay rewards will encourage you to behave like you’re in the movie. Of course, we’re all unpredictable which is what makes matches uniquely fun to return to over and over.
Don’t forget to wishlist and join us at launch!
